V/A - Gilles Peterson: Worldwide (BBE)

Gilles Peterson has been a radio jock since the 80s. He originally honed his skills on his own pirate station, before progressing to other pirates, legit London regional stations and finally the BBC. Peterson certainly knows his stuff and has put out a trolley load of compilations over the years. This brilliant collection is in support of his show that is broadcast around the world and features many tracks that Peterson has broken via this radio endeavour. Worldwide is relatively horizontal in outlook and features a whole host of musical winners. Personal faves from the first disc are Jill Scott’s pretty He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat) and the Gotan Project’s captivating Triptico. Disc two weighs in with heavy hitters like Amerie’s imploring 1 Thing and Sebastien Tellier’s tear inducing La Ritournelle. This is a masterful selection of modern music from a true connoisseur.
