V/A – Kon & Amir: Off Track 2: Queens (BBE)

V/A Kon & Amir: Off Track 2: Queens (BBE)

After mixing up the best in rare breaks for their own On Track series, Brooklyn vinyl obsessives Kon & Amir moved to BBE for a new series entitled Off Track. In contrast to On Track, Off Track features full versions of obscure cuts from the 60s, 70s and 80s and everything has been licensed. The first disc of Volume 2 is given over to Kon’s cool discoid, latiny and soulful selection, where highs include his own edit of The Fabulous Conti Family Band’s You’ve Got Me Going Baby and Eddie Benitez’s key dripping We Are The Ones (Somos). Amir picks traditional and modern African gems for his disc, where winners include Honore Avolonte et L’Orchestre Black Santiago’s key driven Asounon DJE Dokoli and Theadora Ifudu’s cool soul walk entitled Hello There. Kon & Amir have done a good job here, picking out the sort of obscure gems that would otherwise never have made it to our ears.
