V/A – Global Underground GU34: Milan (Global Underground)

V/A Global Underground GU34: Milan (Global Underground)

Chicago’s Felix Da Housecat steps up to the GU decks for a selection inspired by a northern Italian city known for its clothes, footballing greats and its underworld. The Housecat is in dancefloor mood from the word go, opening his account with a hail of synth driven bangers. He highlights the unnecessary divide between house, techno, ‘electro‘ and disco, with a mix that melds the four together in a perfectly logical manner and also reminds listeners of his jackin’ past. Winners on the driving Disc 1 include Sasha’s pulsing Who Killed Sparky? and the stadium house of the instrumental version of Benny Benassi’s Love And Emotion. Disc 2 starts off calmer, but finishes in a similarly hi-octane manner and features excellent cuts such as Jo Jo De Freq’s powerful Saturn Returns and the joyful Harvey remix of Ramsey & Co’s Love Call. This is a true DJ lesson from a talented individual who’s kept himself relevant throughout his twenty-year career.
