V/A Elaste Volume 02: Compiled by Tom Wieland (Compost)

Tom Wieland is best known for his fractured beat and housified productions as one half of 7 Samuri and Panoptikum, but he’s also a DJ of repute who enjoys playing a broad range of music. Here, he takes over the Elaste torch from DJ Mooner, delivering a hot selection of lost European discoid gems, primarily from the 70s and 80s. Purring instruments, weird synthetics and buoyant vocals dominate on this gorgeous selection of music, which Wieland can certainly be proud of. Winners include Jagg’s calm Take Your Time, Two Man Sound’s marching Que Tal America and the super deep Hallucinogenic overhaul of Rufus & Chaka Khan’s magnificent Ain’t Nobody. Compost have a long tradition of sourcing cool music from a variety of places and the Elaste series underlines their ability to turn to different genres and pick out prime musical cuts.
