Adrian ’Grupo Fantasma’ Quesada and Martin ‘Ocote Soul Sounds’ Perna of Antibalas fame meet for another instalment of groovy summery magic, driven by a relaxed yet mean percussion section and all types of instruments. Playful and accessible, yet still delivering rhythmically and melodically, The Alchemist Manifesto puts these guys in a similar ballpark as Will ’Quantic’ Holland, albeit playing the game in a different way. The album is dominated by beautiful introspective cuts and the heavy Latin influences can be felt in the grooves as well as seen in the lyrics. Magical moments include the flute blessed El Pescador, the mournful title track and a calming effort entitled One Hundred Years. It’s difficult not to get wrapped up in the beauty of the music and drift off into the world of this pair of musical alchemists.
