Southport Weekender 6: Kerri Chandler

V/A - Southport Weekender 6: Mixed by Kerri Chandler (Endulge)

Kerri Chandler is perhaps the perfect Southport DJ, with his steadfast love for all things soul-kissed and his propensity to drop a hefty wedge of classics alongside contemporary House tunes when he spins. His sets in the huge Powerhouse room at the much-loved Pontins based Weekender are rapturously received and this compilation is a fairly good representation of Chandler at Southport. The double CD set features fewer classics than the average Chandler set and doesn’t include his trademark keyboard and singing exploits, but wave after wave of intense House fair should still satisfy fans. Listen out for gems such as Jon Cutler’s bumping “South Slope” and Abstract Truth’s candid “(We Had) A Thing)” on the first CD. Treats on the other disc include Chandler’s own guitar blessed “Je T’aime” and Bougie Soliterre’s unapologetic “Superficial”. Chandler’s compilation can transport previous Southport attendees back to the fairytale world of the Powerhouse and listeners who haven’t been before, but enjoy the music on offer, should definitely consider venturing to this breathtaking three-day party.
