Love or Die

Susumu Yokota - Love or Die (Lo)

Susumu Yokota has been creating moving electronic soundscapes since the early 90s and this album balances the empathetic nature of his ambient work with the exhilaration of his more uptempo creations perfectly. Unlike many experimental producers, who make compositions that are difficult on the ears, Yokota creates wonderfully easy listening material and this quality of his productions has never been more apparent than on this album. Like a book that is difficult to put down, it’s easy to get caught up in the world created by Susumu Yokota and forget about what is going on in the outside world. All of the tracks have story-like titles, with the pick musically being the encircling “For the Other Self Who Is Far Away That I Can Not Reach” and the key walking “The Things I Need To Do For Just One’s Love”. Yokota has a lengthy musical catalogue that contains a number of LPs and the beguiling Love or Die is one of his best albums.
