Broadcasting from OFFtrack Radio

V/A - Broadcasting from OFFtrack Radio (Sonar Kollektiv)

It seems that barely a month goes past without a new compilation from Berlin’s Sonar Kollektiv imprint. This may be a slight exaggeration, but the imprint certainly enjoys releasing CDs, with this new one coming from Dirk Rumpff, a close ally of Jazzanova. OFFtrack is Rumpff’s genre crossing musical baby, which he presents via the Internet radio waves every two weeks. He started the show eight years ago and it ploughs a similarly broad musical furrow to that of J-nova, which is evident from the sweet folky-soul-brknbeat-house sounds that emanate from this collection. Rumpff is well respected, a fact shown by the appearance of many exclusive tunes on this disc. Highlights include State River Widening’s beautiful “Cottonworld”, Rednose Distrikt feat Benny Sings and Die Bend’s nasty “Maaitiemaai” and Slope’s bumpin’ “Gemini”. This tasty compilation give listeners another reason to keep abreast of Sonar Kollektiv developments and it shows that the label is still finding cool music to release.
